REI’s smile Story #3 is from Nga Meh, whom we met at the Karenni Social Development Center on the Thai-Myanmar Border. This program trains young, motivated refugees like Nga Meh to be aware of their rights, understand the rule of law and democracy, care for the environment, and become leaders and change-makers in their communities.
“If people like me become lawyers in the future this will be very beneficial to build a peaceful future. Without these skills our community cannot do this. Before attending this class, I did not know about legal rights and how to protect my rights. Now, I am aware of these rights. This means I can protect myself from others who infringe upon my legal rights.”
