This Virtual Walking Challenge traces a stretch in Northern Kenya that the Lost Boys of Sudan may have taken between 1987 and 2005 to escape the second Sudanese civil war. Approximately 20,000 boys, many as young as 6 or 7 years old, walked for more than 1500 km to reach safety across the border in Kakuma camp in Kenya. You will walk, run, swim or bike a portion of the path, encountering some of the scenes that they may have witnessed along the way – by way of a postcard sent to your inbox every time you hit a milestone.

By participating in this challenge, you will be contributing to projects that empower displaced persons around the world, including providing business training and support to refugees in Nairobi, Kenya.

The REI team will visit this project in June 2024.
