Women’s Literacy Project in Darfur, Sudan (2008)

Having been engulfed in internal conflict for more than three years now, the community area of El Fasher in which Together for Sudan seeks to set up women’s literacy classes is an impoverished community of not less than 200,000 people.

Economic Empowerment for Female Heads of Household in Liberia

The Economic Empowerment for Female Heads of Households Project will economically empower female heads of household to cater to the needs of their families and send their children and younger siblings to school by providing female single heads of households and at-risk girls with sustainable, community-based skills, business training and secondary education opportunities to allow them to become active, equal partners in decision making and the rebuilding of their communities.

Construction of Boy’s Dormitory – Lira District of Uganda

Rachele Comprehensive Secondary School (RCSS) is based in Lira District one of the towns in northern Uganda. RCSS is a fully registered formal secondary school that was established in February 2006 with a total of over 260 students most of whom are Formerly Abducted Children (FAC).

Casamance Returnee Assistance (CARA) Project, Senegal

The CARA project is a one year project that targets villages in the Sindian-Sous prefecture and focuses on rebuilding rural livelihoods. CARA will support refugees to return, resettle and rebuild their lives in this conflict-affected region of Casamance through combining improved, appropriate and sustainable farming practice and income generating activities.

Emergency Assistance for Zimbabwean Refugees in South Africa

December 1, 2007

In 2007, tens of thousands of Zimbabweans fled into neighbouring countries due to food shortages, near-total collapse of the domestic economy, and continued political repression in Zimbabwe. This project provided emergency assistance to refugees arriving in South Africa allowing them a smooth transition into the new community.

Community Health Promotion Initiative in Juba, Southern Sudan

The influx of returnees to Juba in 2007 was causing severe pressure on housing services and an already overstretched infrastructure. 21 years of civil war destroyed much of the region’s infrastructure and so standards of sanitation were very poor.

Food Security in Al-Zannah Village, Southern Gaza

November 1, 2007

This project was for poor female-headed households living in Al-Zannah village in Bani Suhaila Municipality, Khan Younis area of the southern Gaza Strip. 80 low-income families were provided with an animal production unit each, including a pen, 10 hens, and a rooster.
