REI Project Funding Process
October 5, 2026
Knowing how funds are processed and delivered is crucial for NGOs to build trust in the organization and its projects. For donors, understanding how their donations are processed and used can provide reassurance that their fundings are reaching the intended beneficiaries. Then, how does REI fund refugee-led projects?
When potential partners reach out to REI, we send a funding criteria that outlines REI’s principles, visions, funding details and requirements. This step is important to assess whether their projects align with REI’s values and whether potential partners understand the requirements for receiving funds.
If potential partners wish to continue their applications, we ask them to submit a funding proposal. The proposal includes a project summary, background, objectives, constraints, sustainability plan, and budget. Through the process, we are able to know if the projects actually align with our values and can empower refugees and internally displaced people to lead better lives.
We then conduct due diligence to research the organization and to determine whether the projects can be implemented as planned. This may include a visit to the community.
Once we complete our research on their activities and approve the proposal, we arrange the transfer of funds to their organizational accounts. These processes may take some time; however, this is necessary to ensure that our funds go to the right place.
After our partners receive money from REI, they send a report every six months to track their fund usage and the impact that their projects make to their communities. Thanks to their report, we can learn how our funds are utilised to empower refugees.
Q. Is there a maximum funding limit to one project?
A. Yes, we provide funding of up to US$25,000 per project per year .
Q. Is it possible to renew the funding contract?
A. Yes, our partners can continue to receive financial support from REI by renewing their contracts. However, we assess the eligibility based on reports they submitted and, where possible, by visiting the projects.
