Get Involved

We depend on volunteers to organize and run our fundraising activities. Your time and enthusiasm are important. There are many ways in which you can contribute whether with specific skills or by your presence and effort.

No matter who you are, you have the power to make a valuable contribution to supporting refugees worldwide and we would love you to be involved in our organization in whatever capacity you are able to. REI thrives thanks to the efforts of people just like you.

If you think about it though, as I have, I think you will discover that the only thing that really touches us to our soul is the connection we feel to other people. To our families, friends, a poverty stricken child in Somalia, a 10 year old rape victim, a starving 85 year old man, skin and bones, with fire in his eyes. These are humans, just like us. You and me. We live and breath on the same planet. We are simply lucky. No more, no less, lucky. —David Hewett (long-time donor and supporter of REI), when reflecting on philanthropy.

02Become a Volunteer

Refugee Empowerment International thrives and depends on our volunteer team to organize and run our fundraising activities. Become inspired by helping organize our events and working in an international environment in which you can use your professional skills, all while meeting people committed to a great cause.

03Donate an Event

Our corporate partners have raised money for us by naming REI as a beneficiary for charitable funds raised at charity drives and scheduled company events, such as annual dinners, through raffles, competitions and personal donations. They also had a lot of fun along the way. Whatever your circumstances, there is something that you are doing that can help us. We will provide as much support as possible to help make the occasion enjoyable and profitable. Please consult us.

04Become a Sponsor

There are many different ways in which organizations can provide professional support to specific REI events and activities. We can help you to take advantage of your core competencies and set up a corporate community involvement program of mutual benefit and value. Working with you, we will find the best way for you to contribute, whether through financial or in-kind sponsorship, or by making good use of your resources, time, knowledge and influence.

05Become a Friend of REI

For those who cannot offer the commitment of sponsorship or volunteering, the REI Friends programme is another way to contribute. It is a simple and effective way to contribute towards worldwide efforts to assist refugees. In return for your annual fee, we will keep you in touch with all our activities through the REI Annual Review, project updates, reports, NGO profiles, events coverage, community activities, and more.

06Become an Intern

We welcome applications for internships from college or university students, high school students or adults seeking skills for a new career. An internship with REI can provide you with opportunities to gain experience in the field of NGOs, determine if you have an interest in a particular career, create a network of contacts, or gain school credit. Our internships may be part-time or full-time, and typically last 8-12 weeks. Candidates must be flexible and prepared to develop projects independently as well as working with others.

07Attend an Event

REI hosts a variety of charity events in Tokyo and other areas in Japan throughout the year. We organize black-tie dinners, concerts, sporting events and children’s workshops. Please join us at one of our fundraising events and show your support.

You can view last year’s Light up the Life of a Refugee Child concert here.

Alternatively, if you would like to host your own event or assist with organising or volunteering, we would love to hear from you!

Running in Tokyo is organising events in March 2019 that will benefit REI. Download the flyer here.

08REI Schools Program

REI increases awareness about displacement through partnerships with international and Japanese schools in the Tokyo area. The REI Classrooms program consists of fun and interactive presentations and workshops conducted by REI students, interns and volunteers at your school.

REI Classrooms take place as one time event, or as a sequence, depending on your school’s need.
