Get Involved

We depend on volunteers to organize and run our fundraising activities. Your time and enthusiasm are important. There are many ways in which you can contribute whether with specific skills or by your presence and effort.

No matter who you are, you have the power to make a valuable contribution to supporting refugees worldwide and we would love you to be involved in our organization in whatever capacity you are able to. REI thrives thanks to the efforts of people just like you.

If you think about it though, as I have, I think you will discover that the only thing that really touches us to our soul is the connection we feel to other people. Displaced people around the world are humans, just like us. You and me. We live and breath on the same planet. We are simply lucky. No more, no less, lucky. —David Hewett (long-time donor and supporter of REI), when reflecting on philanthropy.

02Become a Volunteer

As a volunteer with Refugee Empowerment International you will be part of an international team making a big difference to thousands of people around the work. You can use your professional skills or learn ones. Our volunteer team represents the organisation, raises awareness of our work, builds networks and organises fund-raising activities. Become inspired while meeting other people committed to a great cause.

03Donate an Event

Our individual and corporate partners raise money for us by naming REI as a beneficiary for funds raised through social and sporting events or through scheduled company events, such as workshops, competitions and personal or matching donations. Whatever your circumstances, there is something that you are doing that can help us. We will provide as much support as possible to help make the occasion enjoyable and profitable. Please consult us.

04Become a Sponsor

There are many different ways in which organizations can provide professional support to specific REI events and activities. We can help you to take advantage of your core competencies and set up a corporate community involvement program of mutual benefit and value. Working with you, we will find the best way for you to contribute, whether through financial or in-kind sponsorship, or by making good use of your resources, time, knowledge and influence.

05Become a Friend of REI

For those who cannot offer the commitment of sponsorship or volunteering, the REI Friends programme is another way to contribute. It is a simple and effective way to contribute towards worldwide efforts to assist refugees. You can subscribe through monthly donations or with an annual fee. In return for your fee, we will keep you in touch with all our activities through project updates, reports, NGO profiles, events coverage, community activities, and more.

06Become an Intern

We welcome applications for internships from students and young adults seeking to learn more about our work and to gain experience in the field of NGOs. During your internship you will promote REI to an international audience, engage and enroll people in the REI mission and build our fund-raising. Our internships may be part-time or full-time, and typically last at least 12 weeks. Candidates must be flexible and prepared to develop projects independently as well as working with others.

07Attend an Event

REI hosts a variety of events in Tokyo and other areas in Japan throughout the year. Please join us at one of our fundraising events and show your support.

You can view the 2018 Light up the Life of a Refugee Child concert here.

Alternatively, if you would like to host your own event or assist with organising or volunteering, we would love to hear from you!

08REI Schools Program

REI increases awareness about displacement through partnerships with international and Japanese schools in the Tokyo area. The REI Classrooms program consists of fun and interactive presentations and workshops conducted by REI students, interns and volunteers at your school.

We can provide material for teaching in conjunction with fund-raising activities.
