This project will create awareness among children and young people, aged 12-25, in Juba, South Sudan, on HIV/AID prevention, breaking down the stigma and equipping young people with life skills to enable them resist peer pressure and make right choice to live healthy life.
This project will enable 45 refugee students, aged 16 to 21, to attend the Karenni Further Study Program for the 2010-2011 school year, in Karenni Camp 2, Thai/Burma border.
Education in the Karenni Camps refugee camps in Thailand is limited and basic. Currently educational assistance to Karenni refugees from early childhood development to high school education is primarily supported by international non-governmental organizations and individuals and there are very few educational opportunities beyond 10th grade.
REI will provide three months interim funding to address a shortfall in educational provision for Congolese children in the Kala and Mwange Refugee Camps. This will specifically target the education needs of disabled children, provide educational materials and improve sanitation.
After the 2 decades of civil war in Southern Sudan refugees and IDPs began returning home in 2005. The return of 3.7million IDPs and about 350,000 refugees continued through organized returns as well as spontaneously. UNHCR recorded 96,508 returnees to South Sudan by December 2006 and was expecting 102,000 in 2007.
This project is in support of families returning to the Uvira and Fizi territories of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. (DRC). These generally poor people have returned to find their homes and lands destroyed or occupied.
The goal of this project is to support the environmental rehabilitation process in and near IDP and refugee camp sites and in the return areas by undertaking environmentally friendly activities.
Rachele Comprehensive Secondary School (RCSS) is based in Lira District one of the towns in northern Uganda. RCSS is a fully registered formal secondary school that was established in February 2006 with a total of over 260 students most of whom are Formerly Abducted Children (FAC).
The influx of returnees to Juba in 2007 was causing severe pressure on housing services and an already overstretched infrastructure. 21 years of civil war destroyed much of the region’s infrastructure and so standards of sanitation were very poor.
The movement of Burmese nationals into Thailand began in the 1970s. Over 120,000 live in 5 camps along the border of the two countries still described as “temporary shelters” by the authorities. Others live as migrants in the community subject to sudden deportations and harassment by police and local people.
