Projects funded are run by experienced groups in the refugee and IDP community. We ensure that support reaches groups swiftly and efficiently.
Assistance with home-based health care will be provided to 100 chronically ill asylum seekers in South Africa. An additional 700 asylum seekers will be assisted with seeking adequate health care through advocacy for fee exemption and the provision of consultation fees and money for medicines where required.
This six month project will improve the wellbeing of older people returning to their homes in the DRC. “Older people” associations will be established in the returning communities.
Training in empowerment and individual rights will be provided to the displaced persons within the communities of Álamos and Dos de Juni, Colombia.
The emergency eye care outreach missions for refugees, IDPs and local communities in Chad will provide eye surgeries, medical support and train health care personnel in the detection and prevention of eye disease. In one outreach mission 2000 individuals will be provided with direct assistance and another 90 individuals will be provided training.
Education in the Karenni Camps refugee camps in Thailand is limited and basic. Currently educational assistance to Karenni refugees from early childhood development to high school education is primarily supported by international non-governmental organizations and individuals and there are very few educational opportunities beyond 10th grade.
Refugees arriving in South Africa find themselves in legal limbo for years, without the right to seek formal employment and lacking the documents that give them access to social and health services, education and to open bank accounts.
Refugee Empowerment International has funded EarthRights International alumni small projects with great success for a number of years. EarthRights International founded the first EarthRights School (ERS) in Thailand in 1998 catering to refugees from Burma, teaching the skills necessary to actively participate in rebuilding their societies both outside and within Burma.
Ever since the civil strife broke out in Somalia in the early 1990s, Kenya, in collaboration with UNHCR and other implementing partners, has been accepting, hosting and sheltering thousands of Somali refugees in Dadaab.
This project in Kitgum district of northern Uganda aims to support environmental rehabilitation around Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP) camps and in return areas through promoting the implementation of environmentally friendly activities.
The goal of the Karen Youth Organization is to empower and equip the youth to face the future and create a better world based on justice and peace. This includes supporting and educating young people to play a vital role in building a society that is environmentally sustainable, politically stable, economically accessible and socially just.
